Issue/Introduction

When attempting to upgrade an ESXi host from the CLI you encounter the following error message:

On platform embeddedEsx, VIB CIS_bootbank_ucs-tool-esxi_1.2.2-10EM requires esx-version. << 7.1.0, but the requirement cannot be satisfied within the ImageProfile.

Environment

• VMware ESXi 7.x
• VMware ESXi 8.x

Cause

The version of the Cisco USC Tool VIB is not compatible with the ESXi upgrade version or the upgrade media (ZIP file) does not have a newer version embedded in it.

Resolution

• Update the VIB to a supported version for current version of ESXi and the one being installed.
• Remove the VIB according to the instructions in KB 383306
