Issue/Introduction

When performing a brownfield import of an existing vCenter Server into VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.1, the validation phase fails with an error similar to:

"The NSX install image for version 9.1.0.0x.xxxxxxxx was not found or Failed to retrieve component binary."

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.1

Cause

This issue occurs because the required NSX install binary is missing from the local repository. During the validation pre-checks, the system verifies if the specific target image version needed for the import workflow is present in the Install Binaries section of the lifecycle management configuration. If the image has not been downloaded, the validation fails.

Resolution

  1. Log in to the VCF Operations (SDDC Manager) UI.
  2. Navigate to Build > Lifecycle > VCF Instance.
  3. Select the relevant VCF Instance.
  4. Go to Binary Management > Install Binaries.
  5. Locate the required NSX or vCenter image version (e.g., version 9.1.0.0200.25524170) and initiate the download.
  6. Once the download is complete and the binary is available locally, retry the validation for the vCenter import process.
