VCF deployment of NSX Manager fails with “OVF Tool pre-verification failed” when the vSphere Datacenter name contains a forward slash (/)

Issue/Introduction

During VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) deployment, the Deploy NSX Manager task fails with the error: “VCF deployment error: an error in task ‘Deploy NSX Manager’. Invalid parameter: OVFTool pre-verification failed for deployment of VM.” The deployment does not proceed past the OVF deployment stage.

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), VMware NSX, SDDC Manager, vCenter Server, and OVF Tool.

 

Cause

The vSphere Datacenter name contains a forward slash (/). The forward slash is interpreted as part of the inventory path, causing the OVF Tool to incorrectly parse the deployment location during pre-verification. As a result, the deployment location is considered invalid and the NSX Manager deployment fails.

Resolution

1. Rename the vSphere Datacenter to remove the forward slash (/) from the Datacenter name.
2. Retry the failed VCF deployment task.
3. Once the forward slash is removed, the OVF Tool correctly parses the deployment location and the NSX Manager deployment completes successfully.
