SRM datastore incorrectly reports Not Replicated status with NetApp SRA

Issue/Introduction

Site Recovery Manager (SRM) reports that a Protected Datastore is Not Replicated or shows as Not Configured. Within the vSphere Client, navigating to the relevant Array Pair reveals that the datastore field for specific storage devices is completely empty, preventing mapping or protection.

Environment

• VMware Live Recovery 9.x
• Site Recovery Manager (SRM) 8.x, 9.x
• NetApp Storage Array
• NetApp Storage Replication Adapter (SRA)

Cause

A lack of metadata synchronization or mapping configuration between the physical storage array and the NetApp SRA layer. SRM relies on the XML payload discovered by the SRA to map datastores. If the SRA fails to pass the correct LUN/WWN identification mapping, SRM cannot compute datastore groups.

Resolution

Follow these steps to synchronize the replication state:

1. Verify Storage-Side Mapping: Ensure the physical NetApp volume or LUN backing the datastore is configured in a healthy replication relationship and correctly assigned across both sites.
2. Rescan Storage Replication Adapters:
   • Log in to the vSphere Client.
   • Navigate to Site Recovery > Array Based Replication > Storage Replication Adapters.
   • Click Rescan Adapters.
3. Force Device Discovery:
   • Navigate to Array Pairs.
   • Select the NetApp array pair and click Discover Devices to rebuild the database mapping cache.
4. Verify Status: Confirm the datastore status now shows as Replicated and the warning has cleared.

If the issue persists, engage the NetApp storage administration team to analyze SRA logs for syntax or connection faults during discovery.
