Issue/Introduction

During a VMware HCX Bulk Migration, a warning is displayed during the validation or switchover phase. This happens when Guest Customization is used but required network details such as DNS configurations are missing.

The following warning is displayed in the HCX Manager UI: 

DNS is not provided for as part of guest customization, it will be reset.

Cause

The migration profile or guest customization settings do not include explicit DNS server or suffix configurations. HCX requires these fields when Guest Customization is active to ensure the target VM maintains network connectivity after the migration is completed.

Resolution

To resolve this warning, provide the DNS configuration within the migration wizard:

  1. Expand "Edit Extended Options" for the migration and select "DNS Customization".
  2. In the "Extended Options: DNS Customization", provide the DNS information:
  3. Apply Option and Save. 
  4. Proceed with migration validation.
