Issue/Introduction

Users may find that the nimbus_manager.log file in the $Nimsoft\AC\logs\ directory isn’t being updated, even with the loglevel set to 5.

Environment

Product: DX Unified Infrastructure Management (UIM)
Component: Infrastructure Manager (IM)
OS: Windows (all versions supporting IM)
Configuration: Windows User Account Control (UAC) is enabled (e.g., 'Always notify').

Resolution

Step 1: Verify Logging is Enabled

Before troubleshooting permissions, ensure that the application is configured to generate logs at the correct level.

Open the Windows Registry Editor (regedit).
Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Nimbus Software\NimBUS Manager\Options
Locate the LogLevel value and ensure it is set to 5.
Restart Infrastructure Manager if changes were made.

Step 2: Run with Administrative Privileges

To verify if UAC is the cause, run the application with elevated permissions:

Close Infrastructure Manager.
Right-click the Infrastructure Manager shortcut or NimBUSManager.exe.
Select Run as administrator.
Perform actions within IM (e.g., logging in to a hub) and check if $Nimsoft\AC\logs\nimbus_manager.log begins to update.

Step 3: Permanent Fix Options

If Step 2 resolves the issue, choose one of the following permanent solutions:

Option A: Create a Windows scheduled task or a shortcut configured to always run the application with elevated privileges.
Option B: (Least Secure) Adjust the Windows UAC setting to a less restrictive level, such as 'Never notify'
