Renaming or changing the FQDN of an ESXi Host managed by VCF 9.0

Issue/Introduction

After initial deployment either the full or a portion of the FQDN is not the desired name or the name needs to be changed after deployment.

Environment

SDDC Manager 9.0 +

VCF 9.0+

Cause

Currently no method exists to modify the FQDN of an ESXi host managed by SDDC manager. If any portion of the FQDN needs to be changed either hostname or domain suffixes.

Resolution

• Decommission the host in SDDC manager.
• Reinstall ESXi with the updated host name and domain name.
• Add the host back to SDDC manager.
