Issue/Introduction

When using the Group By feature in Rally Work Views (specifically when grouping by Owner), work items assigned to inactive or deactivated users do not appear in the view.

Symptoms

  • Work items owned by users who have left the organization are missing from the Work View.
  • No group header appears for inactive users when "Group By Owner" is applied.
  • The total item count decreases when grouping is enabled compared to when no grouping is selected.

Resolution

The "Group By" logic focuses on active users to maintain an actionable and relevant display. Because deactivated users are no longer active entities, the system does not create group headers for them, causing their assigned items to be omitted from the grouped view.

To maintain visibility of these items, use one of the following :

  1. Use Portfolio Item Views: Navigate to Portfolio Item views, which provide a comprehensive list and allow filtering by owner regardless of their active/inactive status.
  2. Apply Advanced Filtering: Use a Custom List widget with an advanced filter query to identify orphaned items: (Owner.Disabled = "True")
  3. Bulk Reassign Items: Once identified, bulk-reassign the items to an active team member or a designated "Holding" user account to ensure they appear in standard delivery views
