VCF Operations

Issue/Introduction

  • VCF Operations shows a higher "Used Capacity" under the license than the "primary Licenses Used Capacity" shown for the vCenter system.
  • The discrepancy may occurs after hosts have been successfully removed from the vCenter inventory or if vcenter servers are updated.
  • Attempts to add new hosts fail with an error:
To assign this license, it must have allocated capacity of #### cores.
  • Clicking the Update License button in VCF Operations does not reconcile the core count.

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.x
  • VCF Operations 9.x

Cause

This issue can occur due to a synchronization delay or record duplication in the VCF Operations database. VCF Operations may retain stale metadata for hosts that are no longer present in the vCenter inventory.

Resolution

To force a synchronization and reconcile the core counts, perform a manual re-registration of the vCenter license:

  1. Log in to the VCF Operations UI as admin.
  2. Navigate to Operate > Administration > Integrations > vCenter.
  3. Select the affected vCenter name and click Manage Registrations.
  4. Toggle the Licensing slider to Off to unlicense the vCenter server.
  5. Wait approximately 15 minutes to allow the background synchronization to remove the vCenter from the Licensing page and transition the vCenter into evaluation mode.
  6. Return to the Manage Registrations page and toggle the Licensing slider back to On.
  7. Go back to Integrations page and select the vCenter server, then click Activate Management
  8. Go to the Licensing page and click Assign Primary to re-assign the license key.
  9. Verify that the "Used Capacity" now correctly matches the physical core count of the current environment.
