VCF Operations

Issue/Introduction

  • VCF Operations displays the following warning message: "Used capacity is higher than the allocated capacity for one or more of your licenses"

  • The total 'Used Capacity' shown in VCF Operations under Manage > Licenses and Registrations > Licenses is greater than the sum of 'Primary Licenses Used Capacity' reported under vCenter Systems.

  • License usage discrepancy occur following the removal of ESX hosts from the vCenter inventory or after vCenter updates.

  • Adding new hosts fails with the following error: To assign this license, it must have allocated capacity of #### cores.

  • Triggering the Update License function via Manage > Licenses and Registrations in VCF Operations fails to reconcile the core count.

  • Navigating to Manage > Licenses and Registrations in VCF Operations to check Used Capacity  for ESXi host shows duplicate entries for the hosts.

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.1

  • VCF Operation 9.1

  • vCenter 9.1

Cause

The discrepancy is caused by a synchronization delay or record duplication within the VCF Operations database. As a result, VCF Operations incorrectly retains stale metadata for ESX hosts no longer present in vCenter.

Resolution

To force a synchronization and reconcile the core counts, perform a manual re-registration of the vCenter license:

  • In VCF Operations, navigate to Operate > Administration > Integrations.

  • Expand the listed integrations and click on the vCenter.

  • Scroll to the bottom and select Manage Integration.

  • Disable the option "License and vSphere Client plug-in management for all vCenter systems associated with this account are active"

  • Click Save.

  • Repeat the previous steps to re-enable the option and force the synchronization.
