HPE OneView adapter shows "Warning" status and fails to trigger E-mail alarms during temperature spikes in VMware Aria operations

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

When monitoring hardware environments in VMware Aria Operations, you experience the following symptoms:

1. Expected email notifications are not generated when temperature metrics exceed the predefined threshold.

2. Performance and metric data graphs for temperature continue to populate successfully within the user interface.
   
   

3. Under Data Sources > Integrations, one or more HPE OneView adapter instances display a Warning health status and a collection status of None.
   
   

4. Stopping and restarting the affected adapter instance does not remediate the collection failure.

Environment

VMware aria operations version: 8.18.5

Telco cloud infrastructure version (TCI): 2.2

HPE OneView management pack version (HPE provided): 2.4.1.1

Cause

This issue is caused by a localized collection failure that occurs when the HPE OneView adapter is assigned to the incorrect collector group. While raw metric data may occasionally register in the UI graphs, the adapter cannot maintain a stable connection state to evaluate threshold breaches, preventing the alert generation workflow from triggering downstream email notifications.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, try reassigning the affected adapter instance to an alternate collector group by following the steps below:

Step 1: Modify the Adapter Configuration:

1. Log into the VMware Aria Operations user interface with administrative privileges.

2. Navigate to Administration > Data Sources > Integrations.

3. Locate the HPE OneView management pack and select the affected adapter instance showing the Warning status.

4. Click the Edit (Pencil) icon to modify the instance settings.

Step 2: Change the Collector Group:

1. In the configuration window, locate the Collector/Collector Group dropdown menu.

2. Change the assignment away from the Default Collector Group to an alternate, healthy collector group or a specific collector node.

3. Click Validate Connection to ensure credentials and connectivity are intact.

4. Click Save.

Step 3: Verify and Monitor:

1. Allow 1–2 collection cycles (approximately 5–10 minutes) for the changes to apply.

2. Verify that the adapter's collection state and overall status have transitioned to Green (Normal).

3. Monitor the system during the next environmental temperature spike to ensure email alarms trigger as expected.

If email alarms fail to trigger during a verified threshold breach - regardless of whether the collection state/status remains in a Warning state - please contact the HPE Support Team directly for further investigation.
