Issue/Introduction

Installation of Symantec Protection for SharePoint Servers (SPSS) 6.1 fails immediately after clicking the install button. The following error message is displayed:

The wizard was interrupted before the Symantec Protection 6.1 for SharePoint Servers could be completely installed

On enabling DebugView log as per How to Collect debug logs using Debugview on Protection for SharePoint Server and attempting to install SPSS, below error is seen:

Environment

• SPSS 6.1.2/3
• Microsoft SharePoint Server Subscription Edition 16.0.14326.20450
• Windows Server 2022

Cause

This issue occurs due to changes in the SharePoint Config DB Connection string introduced by the Microsoft SharePoint security patch KB5002786 (October 2025 Patch onwards). These changes prevent the installer from correctly identifying the SPSS database name.

To verify if this patch is installed:

• Open Control Panel > Programs and Features
• Click View Installed updates
• Search for Microsoft SharePoint security update (KB5002786) (or newer)
  
  

Resolution

• This connection string issue is fixed in a hotfix build for SPSS 6.1.3.
• Download the attached hotfix installer.
• Run the installer as an Administrator to complete the installation.
