Issue/Introduction

When you attempt to register and license VCF Operations 9.1:

  • In VCF Operations > Manage > Licensing > Registration, you add the License Server and select connected mode.

When you use the VCF Business Services console, you encounter the following issues:

  • In License Management > VCF Operations Registration > VCF Operations name, the status is "Not licensed."
  • In the add license section, the screen displays a warning message: "Your license servers are still pending registration. Refresh the update status."
  • The VCF Ops Logs show the following errors in /storage/log/vcops/log/license-usage-plugin-########-####-####-####-############.log:
    ERROR license-usage-plugin 26687 [[email protected]="ServerConnection on port 10000 Thread 16" operationId=... [com.vmware.vrops.license.usage.utils.LicenseServerExceptionHandler.handleLicenseUsageRuntimeException] - LicenseUsageRuntime : Failed to perform the operation : LicenseUsageInterface.completeRegistration
com.vmware.vrops.license.usage.exception.LicenseUsageRuntimeException: Failed to communicate with Business Services Console. Please check your connection and try again.
  • com.vmware.vrops.license.usage.exception.LicenseUsageRuntimeException: The activation code is no longer valid.

    [com.vmware.vrops.license.usage.utils.LicenseServerExceptionHandler.handleLicenseUsageRuntimeException] - LicenseUsageRuntime : Failed to perform the operation : LicenseUsageInterface.updateUsageReportingMode

Environment

VCF Operations 9.1.x
VCF Business Services Console

Cause

Register the licenses in Connected Mode fails when live token validation is blocked by network security or proxy layers.

Resolution

Switch the registration mode from "Connected" to "Disconnected". This workaround bypasses the immediate networking requirement for live token validation and typically allows the licensing process to complete successfully.

  1. Log in to VCF Operations.
  2. From the navigation bar at the top, click Manage and in the left navigation pane, click Licensing > Licenses & Registration.
  3. In the Registration and License Server Status card, click Manage > Registration Details.
  4. The VCF Operations Registration page appears.
  5. On the Registration Details tab, next to Reporting Mode, click Switch to Disconnected.
  6. In the Switch Reporting Mode dialog box, click Switch to Disconnected.
