Issue/Introduction

  • One Org VDC shows Thin Provisioning as "Enabled" while others show "Disabled" for the same policy.
  • Older storage policy names (e.g., SP1) persist in VCD after being renamed or changed to (e.g.,SP2) in vCenter.

Environment

VCD 10.4.3

TCP 5.0.1

Cause

Storage policy modifications made directly in vCenter Server are not automatically synchronized with the VMware Cloud Director database, leading to metadata drift.

Resolution

  1. Always perform storage policy configuration changes through the VMware Cloud Director UI.

  2. To sync a policy change to existing VMs, follow the steps to Modify the Storage Settings of an Organization VDC.

  3. For Virtual machine:

      1. Log in to the VMware Cloud Director Tenant Portal.

      2. Navigate to Virtual Machines and select the affected VM.

      3. Update the storage policy assignment to trigger a metadata sync.

      4. For Catalogs, migrate templates to a new catalog created with the correct policy.

  4. For catalog items, migrate templates to a newly created catalog with the updated storage policy.
