Issue/Introduction

In VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), when attempting to upgrade SDDC Manager, you experience the following symptoms:

  • The current SDDC Manager version is displayed as 5.2.4.0 (Build 25437063) in the SDDC Manager Web GUI.

  • Under the Available Updates section, the following target versions are listed:

    • 9.1.0.0300

    • 9.1.0.0200

  • Both versions are flagged with the following error message, preventing the upgrade from proceeding:

This version is incompatible with the current environment.

Environment

SDDC  Manager  5.2.4.0

Cause

This issue occurs because the current available releases of VCF 9.1 (9.1.0.0300 and 9.1.0.0200) do not include SDDC Manager v5.2.4.0 in their supported upgrade paths.

Due to the release sequencing, a direct upgrade path from v5.2.4.0 to these specific 9.1.0.x interim versions is currently unavailable.

Resolution

Currently, there is no VCF 9.1.x version available that supports a direct upgrade path from SDDC Manager v5.2.4.0.

To resolve this issue:

  1. Do not attempt to force the upgrade to the incompatible 9.1.0.x versions.

  2. Wait for a future Broadcom release: Broadcom will release a newer SDDC Manager 9.1.x version/patch in the future that will officially support the upgrade path from v5.2.4.0.

  3. Regularly check the Broadcom Interoperability Matrix to confirm when the upgrade path becomes available.
