Issue/Introduction

When attempting to create a new Mobility Group for VM migration in VMware HCX, the migration wizard fails to populate site inventory or load connections.

  • The migration wizard UI explicitly displays the messages "No registered connections found" and "Reload Connections".
  • Unable to create new Mobility Groups.
  • Site inventory fails to load

Environment

VMware HCX

Cause

This issue occurs when a user attempts to initiate a migration from an HCX Cloud Manager that is designated as the Destination in the existing Service Mesh configuration.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform a Reverse Migration or initiate the migration from the original Source HCX Manager.

  1. Verify Service Mesh Direction:
    • Log in to the HCX Manager UI.
    • Navigate to Interconnect > Service Mesh.
    • Confirm which HCX Manager is the "Source" and which is the "Destination" for the established mesh.

  2. Perform Reverse Migration:
    • Login to Source HCX UI, follow the Migration wizard, select the direction as Reverse Migration.

    • Example :
      • If you have Destination HCX Cloud Manager (e.g., Cloud Manager 02) and need to move a VM back to the Source (e.g., Cloud Manager 01), you must use the Reverse Migration feature from Source HCX Manager UI (e.g., Cloud Manager 01).
