Issue/Introduction

  • While attempting to migrate a powered-on virtual machine from one vCenter to another the validation fails with a message similar to:

<VM-Name> - <ESX Source Host Name> - "Currently connected network interface" 'Network adapter 1' cannot use network '########-####-####-####-############' because "the type of the destination network is not supported for vMotion based on the source network type". See KB article 56991 for more details.

  • NSX is installed on both source and destination environments

Environment

  • vCenter Server
  • VMware NSX

Cause

NSX does not support live migration of virtual machines across Transport Zones.

This validation failure is expected behavior.

Resolution

Power off the virtual machine prior to attempting the move.

Additional Information
