Unable to remove a vTPM device from a virtual machine with a snapshot

Issue/Introduction

Removing a vTPM device from a virtual machine fails with the following error:

The operation is not supported on the object. Unable to remove Virtual TPM device from Virtual Machine with snapshot(s) - remove Snapshot(s) first before removing Virtual TPM device

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.0.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0.x

Cause

If a virtual machine has snapshot(s), removing a vTPM device from it fails. This is expected behavior.

Resolution

Delete snapshot(s) first, and then remove the vTPM device.
