Issue/Introduction

Customers upgrading their mainframe environment from z/OS 2.4 or 2.5 to z/OS 3.1 need to verify the compatibility of CA Common Components and Services (CCS) for z/OS 15.0 and identify any mandatory maintenance required for the upgrade.

Cause

When moving to a new z/OS operating system level, specific components within Common Services—specifically CAIENF (Event Notification Facility)—require maintenance to ensure the sub-systems initialize correctly and provide expected services to other Broadcom products.

Resolution

CA Common Components and Services for z/OS 15.0 is compatible with z/OS 3.1. To ensure a successful upgrade, the following PTF is mandatory:

Mandatory Maintenance
PTF: LU11414
Component: CAIENF (CAW1F00)
Description: Provides the necessary updates for CAIENF to function correctly on z/OS 3.1.

Implementation Steps:

1. Verify Release: Ensure your environment is currently on CCS 15.0 (the latest supported release).
2. Download PTF: Retrieve PTF LU11414 from the Broadcom Support Portal.
3. Check Prerequisites: Review the PTF MCS for any required prerequisites. Common related maintenance includes LU05157, LU05158, and LU05159.
4. Apply Maintenance: Apply the PTF using SMP/E before or during the z/OS 3.1 upgrade window.
5. Restart Services: Ensure CAIENF is restarted to pick up the changes.
