All nodes of a WSFC cluster lose access to a physical mode RDM

Issue/Introduction

• At guest OS level, each node of a Windows Server Failover Cluster (WSFC) loses access to one or more physical mode RDM disks
  
  
• There is no ESXi connectivity issue to the underlying RDM LUN
  
  
• Access is recovered to the RDM disks, by shutting down the VM nodes and powering them on one at a time

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi (all versions)

Cause

The cluster configuration is not aligned with the documented configuration requirements for a WSFC cluster on vSphere.

Resolution
