Issue/Introduction

  • In VCF Operations, duplicate ESXi host entries appear within performance dashboards --> Esxi Networking --> charts and generated inventory reports. The stale or duplicate resource typically displays a status of "Not Collecting" or features a greyed-out icon, while the active host collects metrics normally.

Environment

VMware Cloud Operations 9.1

Cause

The issue is caused by legacy, stale, or orphaned host system objects remaining indexed within the Aria Operations internal inventory database. This typically occurs after an ESXi host is re-registered in vCenter, disconnected, or when underlying vCenter adapter configurations are modified, leaving a broken object pointer behind.

Resolution

To permanently remove the duplicate stale entries from all dashboards and reports, delete the stale resource from the administrative inventory:

  1. Log into the VCF Operations user interface.
  2. Navigate to Administration from the top menu, then select Inventory from the left-hand navigation pane.
  3. Use the search or filter bar to search for the specific Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of the duplicate host. Alternatively, filter by Object Type and select Host System.
  4. Identify the stale resource by looking at the Adapter Instance column and resource icon—the stale entry will show a status of "Not Collecting" or have a grey icon.
  5. Select the stale resource row and click the Delete Object (trash can) icon.
  6. Confirm the deletion to clear the object from the database.
