vCenter Adapter listed as an authentication source on Aria Operations login screen

Issue/Introduction

The login screen for Aria Operations (version 8.x) displays the "vCenter Collector adapter" or specific vCenter names in the authentication drop-down list.

The administrator expects to see only "Local Users" and configured Active Directory (AD) domains.

 

 

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.18.x

Cause

This is expected behavior when vCenter authentication is enabled globally within the Aria Operations platform. By default, or when certain integration settings are toggled, the platform presents the vCenter adapter as a valid login path to allow users to authenticate using their vCenter credentials.

Resolution

To remove the vCenter adapter from the authentication source list on the login UI, you must disable the global user access setting for vCenter logins.

1. Log in to the Aria Operations UI with administrative privileges.
2. Navigate to Administration > Global Settings.
3. Select User Access from the left-hand menu.
4. Locate the setting: "Allow vCenter users to log in to individual vCenters from VMware Aria Operations UI".
5. Set the toggle to Deactivated (Off).
6. Click Save.

Verification: Logout of the current session or open a private browser window to the Aria Operations login page. The vCenter adapter should no longer appear in the authentication source drop-down menu.
