Issue/Introduction

When attempting to integrate HCX Manager with the VCF Operations Management Pack for HCX 9.1, the integration fails with an authorization error. Despite the integration user being part of the "VCF Administrator" group and having the "Migration Admin" role assigned within VCF Operations Identity Access Management, the HCX appliance does not recognize these permissions.

Symptoms:

  • Error message in VCF Operations: User does not have 'Migration Appliance Admin' role.
  • The issue persists even when custom roles are assigned to the user.

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Operations 9.1.0
  • VCF Operations HCX 9.1
  • VCF Operations Management Pack for HCX 9.1

Resolution

This is a known issue impacting VMware HCX.

Workaround:

Add the integration user to the required vCenter authorization group:

  1. Log in to the vSphere Client.
  2. Navigate to Administration > Single Sign-On > Users and Groups.
  3. Select the Groups tab.
  4. Search for and select the group named Migration Appliance Administrators.
  5. Add the domain user (the account being used for the VCF Operations integration) to this group.
  6. Once added, return to the VCF Operations UI.
  7. Navigate to Operate > Integrations and retry adding the HCX Manager.
