PGP Command Line 11.5.1 and Above Requires PGP Encryption Server for Licensing

Issue/Introduction

After upgrading or installing PGP Command Line version 11.5.1 or later, files fail to process, move, or encrypt. The system may log licensing errors or fail to authenticate commands, indicating that the client is unlicenced or unregistered, even if a legacy license key was previously working.

Cause

Starting with version 11.5.1, Symantec PGP Command Line introduces a centralized licensing architecture. It no longer accepts standalone local license keys. Instead, it requires a connection to a PGP Encryption Server (formerly Symantec Encryption Management Server - SEMS) for central license management, validation, and registration tracking.

Resolution

To successfully license and activate PGP Command Line 11.5.1 and above, you must upload your license file to a PGP Encryption Server 

Upload the License to the PGP Encryption Server

1. Log in to your PGP Encryption Server administration console.

2. Navigate to the System > Licensing section.

3. Upload your valid software license file (.slf).
