Issue/Introduction

When you attempt to run the Intelligent Updater on unmanaged Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) clients installed on Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008, the installation fails with the error message All updates failed to install on the machine.

Environment

  • Product: Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 14.3 RU5, 14.3 RU7
  • Operating System: Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2

Cause

The DLL ucrtbase.dll from a Universal C Runtime Library is missing.

Resolution

You must download and install the Universal C Runtime update from Microsoft to provide the missing ucrtbase.dll.

  1. Navigate to the Microsoft Download Center for Update for Universal C Runtime in Windows (KB2999226).
  2. Select the version appropriate for your operating system (e.g., Windows 7 for x64-based systems).
  3. Download and install the package.
  4. Restart the machine if prompted.
  5. Run the Intelligent Updater again to verify the fix.
