Error: This feature is not supported with the current applied license in NSX 9.1

Issue/Introduction

• When attempting to add or update a Distributed Firewall (DFW) security policy in NSX 9.1, the following error message appears:
  
  `This feature is not supported with the current applied license`


• This typically occurs after upgrading to NSX 9.1 or transitioning to licensing via VCF Operations (VCF Ops).

Environment

• VMware NSX 9.1.x
• VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.1.x
• VMware vDefend Firewall

Cause

In NSX 9.1, vDefend features (including DFW) require the License Hub component for license management. While other VCF components are licensed through vCenter Server registration to VCF Operations, vDefend products specifically require License Hub to authorize security features.

Resolution

To enable DFW features, deploy and configure the License Hub appliance in the environment.

1. Verify the current licensing state in NSX Manager under System > Licenses.
2. Deploy the License Hub appliance. See Deploying License Hub for detailed steps.
3. Configure NSX to communicate with the License Hub.
4. Once synchronized, the DFW security policy features will be available for use.
