Issue/Introduction

After upgrading to VMware Cloud Director 10.6.1 and VMware Aria Operations 8.18.6, the built-in usage overview (Top-N) dashboard—previously available in the tenant portal via the vRealize Operations Manager plug-in—is no longer present. Specifically, the "Top-N" usage statistics for vApp/VM vCPU and Memory.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.1

VMware Aria Operations 8.18.6.

Cause

The vROps plugin for VCD has limited functionality in newer versions and no longer supports the built-in dashboard feature for vApp/VM usage statistics (Top-N) within the VCD tenant portal. There is currently no exact Out-of-the-Box (OOTB) dashboard in VCD 10.6 that replicates the legacy chargeback/usage functionality.

Resolution

There is no direct resolution within the VMware Cloud Director UI itself as the feature has been deprecated in the plugin.

Workaround:

To achieve similar functionality, administrators must create a custom dashboard within VMware Aria Operations.

  1. Log in to the VMware Aria Operations (formerly vROps) UI.
  2. Navigate to Visualize > Dashboards.
  3. Click Create to start a new dashboard.
  4. Drag the Top N widget onto the dashboard canvas.
  5. Configure the widget:
    • Label: Provide a name (e.g., "Top 5 vApp vCPU Usage").
    • Metric: Select the desired metric (e.g., CPU | Usage (%) or Memory | Usage (%)).
    • Object Type: Set this to vApp.
  6. Save the dashboard and share it with the intended users or tenants.
