Issue/Introduction

When uploading the fix and trying to apply you get an error invalid file.

Environment

  • Privileged Access Manager 4.2.2
  • Security Patch 4.2.2.75

Cause

The security patch is typically provided as a compressed archive. If the user attempts to upload the zipped file directly without extracting the actual patch file (.p.bin), the appliance will fail to process the update.

Resolution

To apply the patch successfully, follow these steps:

    1. Download the security patch archive from the Broadcom Support Portal.
    2. Extract the contents of the downloaded ZIP file to a local directory.
    3. Verify the integrity of the extracted .p.bin file using the provided checksums.
    4. Log in to the PAM GUI as an administrator.
    5. Navigate to Configuration > Upgrade.
    6. Upload the extracted .p.bin file using the Upload (not Upload and Apply) option to ensure the file is staged correctly.
    7. Verify the checksum in the PAM GUI matches the expected value.
    8. Apply the patch and allow the appliance to reboot.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Always take a VMware snapshot of the appliance before implementing updates in production.
