In VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.x environments using VMware HCX 9.1, you may observe that while HCX Manager logs are present in VCF Operations for Logs, the logs for the Data Plane appliances (Interconnect/IX and Network Extension/NE) are missing. This occurs even when the Log Insight Agent is active on the HCX Manager.
The Log Insight Agent installed on the HCX Manager is designed to collect local service logs from the Manager appliance itself; and it does not currently support ingesting or forwarding for the IX and NE Fleet Appliances.
There is no current resolution to forward Fleet Appliance logs via the HCX Manager Log Insight Agent.
If there is a requirement that IX and NE Data Plane appliance logs must be forwarded to a remote syslog server, the following procedure is the only possible workaround.
Important: If you configure the Syslog Server for forwarding dataplane appliance logs, you must ensure the Log Insight Agent is disabled. Failure to disable the agent will result in duplicate entries for HCX Manager logs in Log Insight.
HCX Manager UI (https://<hcx_manager_fqdn>:9443).Administration > General Settings > Syslog Server.Remote Syslog Server (e.g., the syslog ingestion address of your Log Insight cluster).Interconnect > Service Mesh > View Appliances.Force Sync for the IX and NE appliances to push the syslog configuration.
