Issue/Introduction

Cloning from the master image during a Horizon recompose operation is taking longer than usual.
While the cloning process normally completes in about 5 minutes, it is currently taking around 20 minutes.

Environment

vCenter Server 7.0, 8.0

ESXi 7.0, 8.0

Cause

The cloning process is being performed while the master image retains snapshots.
Normally, snapshots are deleted prior to reconfiguration.
If cloning is performed while snapshots exist, the process takes longer than it would without snapshots, because the cloning operation must also merge the snapshots into the base VMDK.

Resolution

Delete the snapshot on the master image virtual machine and perform a Horizon recompose operation.
