vSphere HA virtual machine failover failed SupervisorControlPlaneVM error in vCenter Server

Issue/Introduction
In the vSphere web UI, there is a persistent alarm on one or more Supervisor Control Plane VMs:
vSphere HA virtual machine failover failed SupervisorControlPlaneVM (#)Environment
vSphere Supervisor
vSphere Cluster protected by High Availability (HA)
Cause
This error appears when High Availability detects a dead ESXi host where the noted Supervisor Control Plane VM is running on.
Similar to virtual machines not managed by WCP or Kubernetes, there is no impact to the virtual machine itself.
High Availability did not fail or stop working, but there were failures powering on the Supervisor Control Plane VM on the ESXi host.
Resolution
This alarm is expected behavior and the noted Supervisor Control Plane VM will continue to run without issue.
However, Actions for Acknowledge or Reset to Green will be greyed out directly on a Supervisor Control Plane VM due to their management by WCP.
To clear the alarm from the Supervisor Control Plane VM:
- Navigate to the corresponding vCenter object in the vSphere web client Inventory
- Click on the Monitor tab
- Under Issues and Alarms, navigate to Triggered Alarms
- Find the vSphere HA Virtual Machine failover failed alarm for the affected Supervisor Control Plane VM
- Check the box next to the alarm entry found in the previous step
- Click Acknowledge or Reset to Green
Although the above steps clear out the alarm, we recommend verifying that the Supervisor cluster and Kubernetes status are in a healthy state as best practice.
You can confirm on this through Workload Management in vSphere 8, or Supervisor Management in VCF9.
