Changing VVF vCenter instance's FQDN/PNID and update on VCF Ops 9.x

Issue/Introduction

As part of a product upgrade, company acquisition, or corporate merger, it may be necessary to update the fully qualified domain names (FQDNs) of vCenters to align with new naming conventions or organizational policies.

This articles explains procedure to update vCenter FQDN/PNID and proceed to update on VCF Operations

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 9.x

vCenter 9.x

Resolution

1. Take a backup/snapshot of the vCenter Server before proceeding with the following steps.  (Note: For vCenter 8.x in ELM refer Snapshot Best practices for vCenter Server Virtual Machines)

2. Update DNS entries(forward and reverse lookup) to resolve the existing vCenter IP with new FQDN

3. Change the vCenter FQDN using the vCenter Server VAMI interface (https://FQDN-of-VCSA:5480). Follow the detailed steps in this KB 418448 and ensure vCenter is successfully updated with new FQDN.

4. Login to VCF Operations

5. Navigate to Administration > Integration

6. Expand vCenter adapter, edit the respective vCenter and update the new FQDN and credentials,

   

7. Validate Connection and save.
