Issue/Introduction

  • Intermittent Aria Automation data collection failures against vCenter (VCF 5.2.2) with "Property collection session expired" errors.

  • Logs show ManagedObjectNotFound for the PropertyCollector immediately after a successful login, indicating an attempt to use a stale session.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.x

VCF Aria Operations 8.18.x

Cause

Triggered by vCenter 8.0 "session idle timeout penalties" that dynamically expire sessions when counts are high, which is a product defect in Aria Automation session management.

Aria Automation fails to renew the Property Collector session gracefully after vCenter performs a standard security cleanup of idle sessions.

Resolution

Upgrade Aria Automation to 8.18.1 Patch 5.

  • Workaround:

    • In vCenter Advanced Settings, set config.vmacore.soap.enableSessionTimeoutPenalties to false.

Additional Information

Patch 5 contains the permanent code Release Notes.
