Issue/Introduction

Symptoms When attempting to run Service Mesh Data Plane Diagnostics in an HCX environment, the operation fails with the following error in the user interface: ServiceMeshDiagnostics Failed. Reason: JSONObject["probeResults"] not found.

In the HCX App Engine logs, the following entries are observed: ComputeProfileDiagnosticJob failed in state BEGIN. Error: Unable to fetch initiator location for serviceMesh: ####. java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to fetch initiator location for serviceMesh: ####

Environment

VMware HCX 9.0.#

VMware HCX 9.1.#

Cause

  • There is an incompatibility with Service Mesh Diagnostics when mixed HCX versions are used where 9.0.x version is running at one site and 9.1.x at the other site.

Resolution

This issue is targeted to be fixed in a future release. Please check with Broadcom account team or SE for further updates regarding the release schedule.

To resolve the diagnostic failure in current environment:

  1. Upgrade the Source HCX Manager: Upgrade the source site to HCX version 9.1.x so that both sites are running version 9.1.x or higher.
  2. Resync the Service Mesh: After the upgrade is complete, perform a Service Mesh resync.
  3. Verify Diagnostics: Once the resync is successful, Data Plane Diagnostics will be functioning as expected
