Issue/Introduction

When using the VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Installer to run the "Deploy Deferred Components" wizard, administrators encounter the following issues:

  • The validation phase fails with error: BROWNFIELD_VCF_INSTANCE_CLOUD_PROXY_REGISTRATION_VALIDATION.

  • After providing SDDC Manager details, the Next button is disabled or fails to advance the wizard.

  • Validation task logs may report: VCF Instance Cloud Proxy Registration validation failed.

Environment

VCF 9.0.2

Cause

The validation subsystem within the VCF Installer performs an API-driven version compatibility check against the specified SDDC Manager. Because version 9.0.2 does not contain the required backend handlers for this specific deferred workflow, the registration validation routine fails and throws the BROWNFIELD_VCF_INSTANCE_CLOUD_PROXY_REGISTRATION_VALIDATION exception.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, an upgrade of the SDDC Manager must be completed before utilizing the wizard following the steps below

  1. The "Deploy Deferred Components" wizard within the VCF Installer must be exited.

  2. An upgrade of the target SDDC Manager appliance to version 9.1 must be performed with valid backup's.

  3. Once the SDDC Manager has been successfully upgraded to version 9.1, the "Deploy Deferred Components" wizard must be relaunched to proceed with the remaining deployment tasks.
