Automic Windows Agent 24.4.0 Fails to Start with Java 24

Issue/Introduction

An Automic Windows Agent version 24.4.0 fails to start or remains inactive in the Automic Web Interface (AWI) when running on Java 24. This occurs because the agent startup sequence encounters restricted or missing classes in the JDK 24 runtime environment.

• Agent appears as "Running" in the Service Manager but shows as "Inactive" in the AWI.
• Agent log files stop abruptly after the following line: U02000153 The JVM Option HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError is enabled.
• Manual command line startup via ucxjwx6.exe --console reveals the following error: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/ibm/jzos/MvsCommandCallback

Cause

Automic Windows Agent 24.4.0 is incompatible with Java 24. The agent attempts to load the MvsCommandCallback class, which results in a fatal exception under the JDK 24 runtime, preventing the agent from connecting to the Java Communication Processes (JCP).

Resolution

Fixed in release Windows Agent 24.4.4 HF2 and higher available at https://downloads.automic.com 

Workaround (if upgrade is not immediately possible): Use Java 17 to run the agent. If Java 24 must remain the default on the server:

1. Install Java 17 in a separate directory
2. Specify the path in the agent start command: ucxjwx6.exe -vm:"C:\Path\To\Java17"
