Issue/Introduction

When attempting to install a license on an Integrated Secure Gateway (ISG), the command fails.

Symptoms: Running the licensing load id command returns the following error:

% License update failed for license ID ####
% ErrorCode : -14200
% ErrorMessage : Complete
% Reason : invalid license data

Environment

  • SSP-S620
  • SSP-S410
  • SSP-S210
  • Integrated Secure Gateway (ISG) 2.x

Cause

The error occurs because the appliance serial number is being used in the licensing load command. The SSP is not a licensed product and does not accept a license load. Only the applications running on the SSP (such as Edge SWG or Content Analysis) require license IDs. Reference: About Integrated Secure Gateway.

Resolution

Load the license ID associated with the specific application intended for the ISG, rather than the SSP hardware serial number.

  1. Log in to the Broadcom Support Portal.
  2. Navigate to My Entitlements and locate the specific application (e.g., Edge SWG/CAS).
  3. Retrieve the License ID for that application.
  4. Use the application License ID to load the license with one of the following CLI commands:

# licensing load id license_id username username password password

# licensing inline passphrase passphrase

If the license loaded successfully, the CLI displays the message License update was successful for license id license_id.
