VCF Operations for Networks

Issue/Introduction

  • After upgrading VCF Operations for Networks, the environment fails to automatically retrieve licenses from the connected vCenter Server data source.
  • The "Delete" option for the existing/old license key is either greyed out or fails with an error.
  • The system may display a message stating that at least one valid license must be present, but the environment does not recognize the vCenter-based licenses as the primary keys.

Environment

VCF Operations for Networks 6.14

VCF 9.0

Cause

This issue occurs due to a licensing configuration state within the Broadcom licensing portal. Following an upgrade, the environment may require a refreshed license key to trigger the synchronization and allow the removal of legacy keys. This is often resolved by performing a "license split" operation to generate a new valid license key.

Resolution

The fix is to  generate a new license key via the Broadcom Support Portal and apply it manually to unlock the license management UI.

Step 1: Perform a License Split in the Broadcom Portal

  1. Log in to the Broadcom Support Portal.
  2. Navigate to My Entitlements and select the product (e.g., VCF Operations for Networks).
  3. Click on the License badge icon for the relevant entitlement.
  4. Locate the active license key, click the three dots (⋮) next to it, and select Split License.
  5. Follow the prompts to split the quantity (e.g., split a quantity of 10 into two keys of 5, or as needed) to generate a "New" badge license key.

Step 2: Apply the New Key in VCF Operations for Networks

  1. Log in to the VCF Operations for Networks UI.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Licensing.
  3. Click Add License and enter the newly generated license key from the Broadcom portal.

Step 3: Remove the Stale License

  1. Once the new license is successfully applied and validated, locate the old/stale license key in the list.
  2. The Delete (trash can) icon should now be functional. Click it to remove the old license.
  3. (Optional) Perform an Inventory Sync on your vCenter data sources to ensure license synchronization is healthy moving forward.
