Issue/Introduction

When using the Security Services Platform Installer (SSPI) version 5.1.2, the Platform tab is not visible in the user interface. This prevents uploading platform bits or deploying the Security Services Platform (SSP) instance directly from this version of the installer.

Symptoms

  • The "Platform" tab is missing from the SSPI 5.1.2 UI.
  • Unable to upload the Security Services Platform bits to the installer for deployment.
  • The installer only shows options for License Hub configuration despite License Hub being correctly configured and NSX being onboarded.

Environment

Security Services Platform Installer (SSPI) 5.1.2
VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.1

Cause

This behavior is by design. SSPI 5.1.2 was specifically released to support License Hub instance deployment and license retrieval for VCF 9.1 environments. It does not support the deployment of a standard Security Services Platform (SSP) instance.

Resolution

To deploy both the Security Services Platform and the License Hub in a VCF 9.1 environment, follow the dual-deployment model:

  • Deploy a standalone Security Services Platform (SSP) instance using SSPI version 5.1.1.
  • Deploy the License Hub instance using SSPI version 5.1.2.
  • Onboard NSX to the License Hub via the 5.1.2 interface to facilitate vDefend license synchronization.
  • Note that this configuration requires separate sets of Kubernetes nodes (Controller and Worker) for each deployment.
