Issue/Introduction

You are trying to add users to Active Directory (AD) groups to make them available in VMware Identity Manager, but you are not finding the expected groups in VMware Aria Operations 8.18. When you navigate to Administration > Access Control in the VMware Aria Operations UI, select the User Groups tab, click Import from Source, and search for the desired AD group, the group does not appear in the filter results.

Environment

Aria Operations 8.18.x

VMware Identity Manager 3.3.7

Cause

The target Active Directory group is missing from the synchronization settings within the VMware Identity Manager directory. VMware Aria Operations populates its search results based only on the objects that have been successfully synchronized by the underlying authentication source.

Resolution

  • Log in to the VMware Identity Manager console.

  • Navigate to the directory settings for your Active Directory connection.

  • Add the required Active Directory group(s) to the directory sync settings.

  • Initiate and complete a directory synchronization.

  • Return to the VMware Aria Operations UI and navigate to Administration > Access Control > User Groups.

  • Click Import from Source, choose the appropriate Authentication Source from the drop-down menu, and search for the desired AD group.

  • Select the group and click Finish. The group will now be available to add.
