Issue/Introduction

You see unexpected toaster notifications for the Endpoint Security Agent (ESA) on Windows client devices when a Host Integrity policy is enforced, even if you disable notifications within the Symantec Endpoint Security (SES) policy settings.

Environment

ESA with Endpoint Protection (also referred to as Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 16) installed

Cause

The Notifications section within the Host Integrity policy settings controls separate pop-up messages generated by the Symantec agent. However, toaster notifications appearing in the Windows Notification Center are managed by the Windows operating system settings and not by the Symantec Endpoint Security (SES) policy.

Resolution

You must disable the toaster notifications within the Windows operating system settings on the affected client devices. Follow these steps to silence the toaster notifications:

  1. On the specific client device, open Settings > System > Notifications & actions.
  2. Locate the Endpoint Security Agent (for SEP 16) or Symantec Endpoint Protection (for SEP 14.x).
  3. Toggle the switch next to the name of the application to Off to prevent the OS from displaying toaster notifications for that application.
