Issue/Introduction

In vCenter Server, when creating a new or cloned custom role, entering multibyte characters such as Japanese in the role name or description results in failure to register correctly.

Although previously registered multibyte characters are displayed properly, this issue occurs specifically when adding new information.

Environment

VMware vCenter 9.0

Cause

This issue occurs because multibyte characters are not processed correctly during the operation that inserts newly created or cloned role information into the database.

Resolution

Currently, there is no resolution.

When registering a new or cloned custom role, use single-byte characters such as English for the role name and description.

Broadcom is aware of this scenario and is planning to address this in a future version of vCenter Server.
