Decommissioned vCenter objects still appearing in VCF Operations dashboard and alerts

Issue/Introduction

• After a vCenter Server has been decommissioned, administrators may continue to see the old vCenter and its associated objects in VMware Cloud Foundation Operations dashboards, inventory views, and alert lists. In many cases, alerts related to these objects display incomplete information or show values as Null.
• This behavior occurs when the decommissioned vCenter integration remains configured in VCF Operations, allowing stale inventory data to persist in the environment.

Environment

• VCF Operations 9.x

Cause

As long as the integration remains configured, VCF Operations retains the previously collected inventory and object relationships. Since the source vCenter is no longer available, data collection cannot be completed successfully, resulting in stale objects and alerts with incomplete or null data.

Resolution

Remove the decommissioned vCenter integration from VCF Operations and delete the associated objects.

 

Note: Ensure to secure a snapshot of the VCF Operations component before making below changes.

 

Procedure

1. Log in to the VMware Cloud Foundation Operations user interface using an admin account: 

   https://<vcf_operations_fqdn>
2. From the left navigation pane, navigate to Administration ➔ Integrations.
3. Select the Accounts tab.
4. Locate the decommissioned vCenter Cloud Account.
5. Verify that the account is no longer required and is typically displayed in a Warning state.
6. Expand the vCenter account entry.
7. Click the vertical ellipsis (⋮) menu next to the account.
8. Select Delete.
9. When prompted, enable the option to Delete related objects associated with the vCenter account.
10. Confirm the deletion.
11. If multiple decommissioned vCenters exist, repeat the procedure for each obsolete integration.
12. Depending on the environment size and collection interval, object removal may not be immediate and can take one or more collection cycles to complete.
13. Ensure the vCenter being removed is permanently decommissioned before selecting the option to delete related objects, as this action removes the associated inventory from VCF Operations.
