Issue/Introduction

When attempting to detach a named disk from a Virtual Machine in VMware Cloud Director, the operation fails with the following error:

Invalid hard disk parameters specified. The following parameters are invalid or conflict with other configured devices in the virtual machine: [vcId=#####, moref=vm-#####] Adapter Type: SCSILSILOGIC, Bus Number: 1, Unit Number: 0

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.x

Cause

  • This issue occurs due to a mismatch between the VCD database and the vCenter Server regarding the VMDK file location or an orphaned attachment record in the VCD database.
  • In this scenario, the disk may have been moved or modified in vCenter (e.g., across datastores), but the VCD database still references a stale location or incorrectly identifies the disk as being actively attached to a VM, preventing the detachment/deletion task.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must manually remove the stale attachment record from the VCD database.

Database modification is needed. Please contact Broadcom Support and note this Article ID (445177) in the problem description.
