Issue/Introduction

  • Virtual disk provisioning type change to "thin" after restore using third party backup software
  • VIrtual disk provisioning type configured as  "thick" or "lazy zeroed thick" (LZT), and "eager zeroed thick" (EZT) and did not manually changed

Environment

VMware vSphere 8.x

Resolution

The disk provisioning type of a virtual machine may be unintentionally changed (e.g., from Thick to Thin) during restore or migration operations performed by third-party backup software such as Veeam.
