Issue/Introduction

Do the CICS log stream names need to end with a supplied suffix?

Resolution

CICS log streams can be named in any way you would like as long as the defined log stream names and those in the LGLOOKUP and CICSLOGR parmlib members match. However, the recommended approach is as follows:

  1. The log stream name identifier is composed of a series of one to eight character qualifiers, separated from one another by dot characters.
  2. The total length of this identifier must be less than or equal to 26 characters.
  3. Match the log stream name to your installation data set naming conventions, with a user ID or system logger application name as the first qualifier.

This convention simplifies reporting, defining SAF generic profiles, and the coding of SMS ACS routines.
