Network Observability Network Flow Analysis

Issue/Introduction

While using NetOps Network Flow analysis, users may experience issues where the **Email/Schedule Report** option are sending but the reports are being sent from and unexpected email address.

For example:

Emails may be coming from:
no_reply@<servername>.com OR another old email address which you no longer want to use and not the expected email address set up in the NetOps Portal Manage Email Server Settings page.

Environment

* **Product:** DX NetOps Network Flow Analysis (NFA)
* **Component:** Scheduled Reports / NFA Console Administration
* **Version:** All Supported Releases

Cause

There is confusion when setting up emails with NFA because while the SMTP Server address is configured in the NetOps Portal Manage Email Server Settings page and synced down to NFA to be used like the below:

The emails which are sent from NFA are sent will use the, "From Address", from a different location. Instead the , "From Address", NFA uses is set up in the NetOps Portal > Administration > Data Sources > Network Flow Analysis (NFA) console > Application Settings page.

This issue typically occurs because the, "From Address", set within that NFA Console, Application Settings page, has not been configured yet or has the incorrect email address set. If no value is set in the NFA Application Settings page, NFA will default, "no_reply@<servername>.com".

Resolution

To ensure NFA emails are delivered from the email address you expect:

1. Log in with administrative privileges to the NetOps Portal > Administration > Data Sources > Network Flow Analysis (NFA) console.
2. Navigate to  Application Settings on the left hand side pane and look for, "From Address":

3. Populate the correct value, and click Save.

Additional Information

If the settings seem to be populated but emails are not being received, review logs on the NFA Console found in:

<Installed Drive Letter>\CA\NFA\REPORTER\Logs:

Manager Service Log202x-xx-xx.log
ReportServiceLog202x-xx-xx.log

Review the logs for errors such as `Connection refused` or `Mail server connection failed`.

Additionally, you may want to verify that the SMTP server allows connections from the NFA/Portal server IP address, and also ensure there are no firewall rules blocking traffic on the SMTP port.

If there are no errors and you see the emails goin out, there is the possibility of the emails ending up in a SPAM folder as well. Ensure the SPAM or Junk filters are not filtering out your emails.
