vCenter Server upgrade precheck flags com.vmware.vrUi plugin compatibility warning

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to upgrade VMware vCenter Server, the installer precheck wizard flags a compatibility warning for the com.vmware.vrUi (vSphere Replication) plugin. This informational warning occurs because the upgrade precheck engine identifies registered extensions or cached plugin packages within the localized repository that it cannot automatically validate against certified target builds in its deployment mapping database. This scenario commonly occurs if Site Recovery Manager (SRM) or vSphere Replication was previously uninstalled from the environment, but residual metadata footprints or registration entries were left on the appliance.

Symptoms:

• The vCenter upgrade precheck UI presents a compatibility alert regarding the com.vmware.vrUi extension.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 7.x, 8.x

Cause

Stale extension registrations or cached plugin package folders remain on the vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) subsystem following a prior uninstallation of Site Recovery Manager or vSphere Replication.

Resolution

You can resolve this issue using one of two methods, depending on your requirements:

1. If your environment audit shows that vSphere Replication is completely decommissioned and no longer needed, you can disregard this warning and continue the upgrade.
   This alert is informational and does not block the installation.
