Issue/Introduction

The PAM Live Upgrader fails during the Prepare stage while trying to apply a patch in a PAM implementation where the "super" administrative account has been renamed per instructions on documentation page Change Login for Config or Super User under header Change Administrator Login Name.

The Upgrader log contains error "Failed at stage Prepare - step Enable_debug":

Environment

Privileged Access Manager (PAM) 4.3.0-4.3.1

"super" account renamed to a custom value.

Cause

An internal script makes a call using hardcoded username "super", which will fail. The tomcat log, which can be downloaded from the Configuration > Diagnostics > Diagnostic Logs > Download page, will show error "Unauthenticated request for user='super'." at the time of failure.

Resolution

This issue is currently under review by Engineering via defect DE679317. It is targeted to be fixed in a future release.

To resolve this issue immediately, use the following workaround:

  • Follow instructions on page Change Login for Config or Super User under header Change Administrator Login Name to temporarily rename the account back to "super".
  • Launch the live upgrader and use the "Cleanup" action to clean up the failed attempt.
  • Perform the desired upgrade task.
  • Once complete, rename the account back to the preferred custom name.
