Aria Operations upgrade is stuck at Stages 8 and 9

Issue/Introduction

Aria Operations upgrade from version 8.18.6 to 8.18.7 is stuck at Stages 8 and 9 for more than 4 hours.

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.18.7

Cause

Stages 8 and 9 involve significant background OS updates and internal database migrations that can take several hours to reflect in the UI.

Resolution

The service (CASA) needs a restart to correctly pick up the upgrade scripts:

1. Connect to the Primary node via SSH using root credentials.
2. Restart the management service by running this command:
   

   service vmware-casa restart

3. Monitor the Admin UI for 30–60 minutes. The status should move from Stage 8 to Stage 10.
